Savannakhet Non—O Visa

Postby Windy » Thu Sep 17, 2015 8:35 pm

Currently in Savannakhet for a new Non O Multi.
Drove to Mukdahan this morning and bused/tuk tuked it to the consulate,
arriving at 1030, I thought would have been in plenty of time. Visa
applications are supposed to stop at 1100.
Upon arriving there was a que that must have been 200 to 300 people long
It went from the window where you hand in your papers, out to the road,
up the footpath the length of the building and then about 30 metres down
the soi on the side.
After a one and a half hour wait in line I finally made it to the front, and there was still close to 100 people after me.
Thankfully they did not turn anyone away.
Now I just hope they get them all processed by 2pm tomorrow like they would normally, and any que moves quicker.
Only about 5% of the people were falang, the rest Lao.

This was a completely different experience from my non o last year at
the old consulate, where there was not a single person in que when I
went.

Thanks for the heads up.Heading there myself next month. I wonder
if the extra people is something to do with Immigration stopping in and
outs on the Thai Cambodian border ?

"They should have a separate but equal line for farang."

Or perhaps citizens and legal residents of the country the consulate is in should be given preference.

Arrived at consulate to pick up my passport at 1425, collections opens at 1400.
This time had about 130 people in line, however only about 35 mins wait, as everyone was just collecting their passports.

The queues at Immigration out of Laos and into Thailand were also much bigger than the previous 6 times I have crossed.

Read somewhere on a diffrent forum that the dates you gave were an exception rather than the rule. I hope but to be on safe side will get there for 8am when I pop over in July.
Ps: what was the drive like from KK cheers

The drive is ok, normally about 3 hours from my place, so add about 30 mins from KKC. The route I take on highway 12 is only two lanes for a long way, so you can get stuck behind trucks sometimes.
There is semi-secure under cover parking for 120 baht for the day (about 200 baht overnight), on the left just before the main gate into immigration.
