Driving Into Laos

Postby SkyyWalker » Wed Jul 22, 2015 3:34 am

Have any of you driven a car into Laos before. Now that our car is paid off
I think we may take a trip there soon. It should be interesting sitting
and driving on the right side! Anyway, I heard the first step is to get
some kind of permit here in town. Also, I assume Thai car insurance
isn't valid in Laos, but I was told you can buy Laos insurance at the
Friendship Bridge. Any info will be appreciated, forum.

I'm not a member there and I rarely visit other forums. I barely
have the time to attend to this one responsibly! If you or anyone else
could post a link I would appreciate it.

Hi.
In addition to your own passport , visas and driving licence. You will
be asked for proof of residency (Yellow book ) Any Thai going with you
must have a Thai passport, not just a one visit cover sheet.
As for the vehicle you will need to show :-
Proof of ownership . Green book showing your name. Receipt showing your
purchase or letter from the finance company stating no monies owing.
Insurance applicable to Loas as well as the Thai mandatory Tax/Ins
window sticker.
In other words TAKE EVERYTHING WITH YOU. (This is not just to get into
Loas but for you to get back into Thailand WITH the vehicle.)
Best of luck, have a good trip.
